Holidays – Arafat Day: 3 October 2014
We will need to wait until the moon's sighting to confirm the timing of Eid Al Adha and the Day of Arafat. We'll update you as soon as we hear.
In October there are two events in the Muslim calendar – the first is Arafat Day, followed by Eid Al Adha.
3rd October 2014 – the Day of Arafat is a significant religious occasion for all Muslims across the world.
If you were in Mecca on that day you would see around 2m (number to be confirmed) Muslim pilgrims leave Mecca in Saudi Arabia towards the Mount of Arafat and onwards to the Plain of Arafat. The Plain of Arafat is the site where the Prophet Muhammad, Peace be upon Him, gave the Farewell Sermon.
This is a one day holiday in Dubai and falls on a Friday this year, i.e. Friday 3rd October 2014. What did you do on this special day? It would be great to hear from you.
We would be delighted to hear and learn more about the Day of Arafat. Please email the Editor at Dubai Survival Guide if you are interested in helping people understand more about this special religious occasion.
