Delivering Groceries
Grocery shopping in Dubai is pretty simple. Their services include delivering groceries - a wonderful luxury when you're busy with other things.
Little local shops and supermarket chains are delivering groceries!
If you have just moved to Dubai grocery shopping is almost the same as anywhere else in the world. The hypermarkets/supermarkets include: Lulu’s in Al Barsha and throughout UAE; Hyperpanda in Festival City; Choitrams throughout the city; Waitrose at Dubai Marina and Dubai Mall; Spinneys, throughout the city and Some of the supermarkets have ‘express’ shops in residential or business areas.
You can buy pork (including bacon) from Waitrose and Spinneys but not online. The special pork sections are separated from the main store but stock everything from hams to pork sausages (frozen or fresh), black pudding (sometimes), fresh pork, frozen pork, little Italian/Spanish nibbles, parma ham etc. The main hypermarket for home delivery service is Geant.
Images of items, size and price are listed on their website. Beverages are on a separate page so have a little scour round to see what’s available. Not all products which are on Geant’s shelves are available for delivery. You can phone for advice but don’t expect a great experience there. It’s pretty simple to organise delivery though online. We have not tested this service so we’d love to hear from anyone who has used the service. Check out your local shops to see if they will organise delivering groceries.
You should double check the quality of the produce on sale in these local shops just to make sure you’re getting the type of food you would normally expect to buy. When they are delivering groceries make sure someone will be available to accept the delivery especially if you have ordered perishable produce. In the heat of Dubai foods should be stored properly. If you’re making the order by phone remember a lot may get ‘lost in translation’ and foods which you think are commonplace may not be quite so common in the local shops. Some of the other stores which have a local online presence and deliver groceries to your door include trolley.ae, supermart.ae, earlybird.ae, Secrets Fine Food, Organic Foods & Cafe, Greenheart Organic Farms and Milk & Honey to name but a few. Remember to check the cost of your purchases.
Some of more upmarket stores can charge quite high prices for even basic foods and there is a tremendous difference in prices.
Again, we’ve not tested any of these delivery services – if you have, would you like to share your experience?
