Furnishings
Where's the best place to buy furnishings in Dubai? The choice is huge and depends on your budget and taste - here's a general guide.
You will find that most of the apartments and villas have absolutely nothing but the bare necessities – no cooker (or stove as some like to call it), no fridge/freezer or even a fridge, no dishwasher. Luckily, you do get a sink, wash hand basins and wcs so don’t worry there! The plumbing is usually connected but it’s a wise tenant who has a look under the kitchen sink once DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water Authority) has connected your electricity and water.
First things first.
Buying furniture, kitchen goods etc is entirely dependent on your budget and taste. The good thing in Dubai is that delivery is pretty efficient. IKEA delivers for free (as long as you spend!) and they’re kind enough to have someone in the team make up the furniture for you. There is a minimum spend – please check.
So, if you’re happy with IKEA go out to Dubai Festival City [LOCATION GUIDE] or there’s meant to be a new one in Ibn Battuta soon enough but there’s no sign of it so far. Abu Dhabi has an IKEA [LOCATION GUIDE]
BUT if you want something just a little bit special have a quick look at our article, written by the gorgeous Giancarlo, and he will give you an idea of what you should be looking for – he might even have something in his fantastic collection which you might consider an ‘exactly what I’m looking for’ item!

There are furniture shops here and if you like the typically heavy and ornate Arabic/Pakistani/Indian type furnishings then look no further – you can find these hidden in the backstreets of Dubai or even Sharjah or mainstream in the malls, e.g. Marina.
Double check for woodworm though!

There are specialist bed shops if you want to buy a comfortable bed – remember you can always take it with you! King Coil on Sheikh Zayed Road is one.
