Dubai Parking

Parking in Dubai isn't too much of a problem, if you can find a parking space! You should be aware of the various parking scenarios - read on.

Updated 11-December-2014

Funnily enough you don’t see traffic wardens too often but somehow, whenever you have parked illegally or without paying, they manage to find  your car and slap a ticket on it!

The usual hours for paid parking which are between 08.00h and 13.00h  and then between 16.00h and 21.00h from Saturday to Thursday.  This takes into account the afternoon break where, in some areas of Dubai, shops close, BUT be careful in areas such as Media City where there is no afternoon break and the parking needs to be paid throughout the day, usually between 08.00h and 18.00h but check the meter or the orange coloured notices.

There is free parking all day on Fridays and public holidays in all areas.

Always check the length of time you can stay in a particular zone, for example, some zones allow up to 10 hours, some only 4.

There are privately run car parking facilities which usually charge a minimum of AED 10 per hour but  you can check with security and/or on entry.  There are other car parks in shopping malls where you can get up to 4 hours free parking but again, always check. For example, Madinat Jumeirah has recently started charging for parking.

The cost of parking in RTA car parks which you can recognise by the orange solar powered parking meters and the orange notices is as follows (as at August 2014)

  • 1 hour:   AED 2
  • 2 hours: AED 5
  • 3 hours: AED 8
  • 4 hours: AED 11

You should not overstay your parking time or you will be liable to a fine.

WAYS TO PAY

Paying Dubai Parking with Dirhams

The parking meters do not accept notes so you need to find 11 Dirhams in coins – that’s a lot of coins if you’re parking for 4 hours.  The machines also accept lower denomination of coins so 50 fils and 25 fils.

Ensure you have the correct change for the number of parking hours you wish to pay for.  On the top right hand of the machine you will see where you can put the coins.  There is a small screen which will tell you the total amount you have put in.  Press the ‘press for ticket’ button once you have checked that you have paid for the correct number of hours and a printed ticket will be issued below.

Paying Dubai Parking with SMS – mParking

An easy way to pay for your parking, and be reminded by text 10 minutes before your time’s up!  The same cost but you will be charged an extra AED 0.30 (30 fils) for each text sent. Here’s the step by step process.
