What’s on your Mind?

We’d love it if we could just let anyone and everyone say what’s on their minds. Sadly, some people just can’t get past being negative and nasty. So, we have a little team of wonderful people who moderate what you say. They will not change your words but they will put a huge STOP SIGN if you aren’t being polite and thoughtful.

There is enough misery in the world without adding any more.

We want to hear your comments and all our readers want your comments to be acceptable to the readers of the Dubai Survival Guide.

Here are THE Rules!

The Dubai Survival Guide has a small team who will read your comments, emails, posts before publication.  Please remember that the moderator team here is only a part of who sees what, our readers themselves have the right to comment and state if they think any writer has broken the rules by emailing us.

No bullies please

If you want to be a bully then go back from whence you came – the school playground. If you want to be abusive and say outrageously rude things about someone or something then get back to bed until you’ve calmed down. If you want to be frightfully nasty and scare someone by using intimidating tactics then you should rethink your role in humankind.

Good discussions can be great discussions – it’s up to you.

You are always going to be you

We want honest, intelligent and forthright discussions and comments and you can’t be honest by hiding. Your email and name will not be divulged at any time (nor to any third party and you will not receive any spam from us or any of our associates) so register with your real name which relates to your email address. We’ll use your initials only when publishing your comments unless of course you want to be famous!

YES, SIR!

Simple & interesting & relevant?

It’s annoying when someone posts a sales link about some rubbish no-one’s interested in. We all want to read something interesting. We want to be part of an interesting discussion. Don’t clutter the interesting discussion with some irrelevant rubbish. Oh, and forget about cut ‘n’ paste – use your own brain and your own words. We’re not here to criticize grammar or spelling, so don’t worry.

Criticism

We all have our own views and we should all be respectful of one another. This means that no-one should be at the end of a bitter tongue. Say something, which will not be regarded as an insult to another human being. Our moderators are great at their jobs. They will SEEK and DELETE any nasty comments.

AND it includes public figures. Do not insult them. They are trying their best. If you don’t agree with them please write and tell us but please remember they have feelings like the rest of us so keep nasty childish remarks off the website.

Vulgarity

We all know the type of person who insults everyone and everything at the drop of a hat. On this website we’re fair but we will not tolerate vulgar language – abusive or otherwise. We wouldn’t listen to it at home or in the office so why would we here?

Please remember that anything inflammatory or offensive will not even be considered as worthy of our readers.

The 3 Rs

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and just because you don’t agree with them doesn’t mean you are entitled to insult them. So, even if you think your comments are smart if they relate to RELIGION, RACISM or discRIMINATION you will not see them in print. Wouldn’t it be better to be known as a decent human being?

Don’t waste your time (or ours)

Some of our readers see writing in capital letters as the equivalent of SHOUTING so please don’t do this. You might have something very interesting to say but we don’t have time to correct this type of typing error. Nor do we have time to fix spelling or grammar and neither should you. Let others have their say without a grumble from you about how it’s written.

Spam

We think this is pretty obvious but just to make it is very very clear, please do not post something remotely advertising a business/your business. It won’t get further than our eagle-eyed moderators.

Something else to say

If you have a genuine grievance regarding the website please contact us via email and we will respond.

We’re trying to make everyone’s lives easier. Give us a chance!

We are sure that, over time, we’ll need to add to the RULES. If you think we’ve overlooked something then please help and email us.

At the end of the day

We’d like to think we’re doing a good job. We haven’t got time to get involved in lengthy correspondence. Our moderators’ decisions are always final.

THINK BEFORE YOU INK!

Disclaimer

The Dubai Survival Guide is written by people who do not claim to be experts in anything other than living in Dubai. Having faced the problems of setting up home here, buying/hiring cars, employing maids, sending our children to school etc etc etc we use this website to help you understand the systems and how to do something or find the answers to your problems without wasting time.

We cannot guarantee that rules and regulations have changed although we make every effort to keep up to date with changes and to keep you informed. All articles are date stamped at the time of publishing and every time they are amended/updated.

It is not a fully definitive guide of Dubai but we hope it goes someway towards helping you settle into Dubai and enjoying it, rather than finding the frustration of getting the right paperwork together only to be told you need another document.

We cannot accept any liability for any incorrect details and we would be very happy if you correct us by sending us an email at info@dubaisurvivalguide.com
